Karen’s Blog: Karen and Jim’s Excellent Adventure

The first time Karen at age 11 saw the ocean and became wonder-struck at the idea of no land over that horizon for thousands of miles, she fell in love. Since then, the mysteries of the ocean and the joys of sailing on it have been twin passions. She and Jim Heumann sailed their Dana 24, Sockdolager, from Port Townsend to New Zealand from 2011-2013, and are now casting their eyes north to Canada and Alaska. Be sure to check out the wonderful guest blog about Karen, Small Boat, Large Experience, by Karen Larson. Karen Sullivan writes for Good Old Boat, 48 North, and other sailing magazines. She’s also at work on a book, and is still in love.
