Here’s an updated version of a piece I wrote about Bill Page back in 2014; it was first published in WoodenBoat No. 240.
Bill Page was a legend before I met him in 1976. He had built numerous boats and then opened his own yacht brokerage office in Camden, ME., specializing in traditional wooden boat. He started it from nothing, and soon the business was well known all along the New England and New York coasts. If you had a wooden boat for sale, or if you wanted to buy one, Page was your guy. As a rule, he featured many of the better listings, and he knew the condition and value of his boats and he represented them so fairly that often both sides of the buyer / seller equation became lifelong customers. He also had a special knack for scoping out what sort of boat might be just right for a potential customer and his family. If something appropriate came up, he would give the customer a call that just might generate a sale.

Sandpiper is in Pulpit Hbr. Looks absolutely perfect, but never seems to leave the mooring. And no fleet of small boats hanging off her stern……

Thanks for the rest-of-the story. I just watched the video, followed by reading this written account of the man and the boat. Very enlightening story + great in-person description of the boat by the man himself. Thank you all for sharing it with us.

Thank you, Bill. Wonderful article. Bill’s BELLADONNA went to a salvage yard this past summer after sitting uncovered in a Maine field for quite a while. A bit about her and her sisterships on the Woodenboat (magazine) Forum here: http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthread.php?232528-Bill-Page-s-Belladonna-left-to-the-elements&highlight=belladonna
