Off Center Harbor's Remarks

The Haven 12 1/2 is Joel White’s centerboard version of the original iconic Herreshoff Buzzards Bay 12 1/2. Built by the Landing School in 2007, this one looks to be a nice boat in very good shape. We could go on about how this might be the best family daysailer ever built and about how, if you buy it for your family, there is a good chance it will become a multi-generational boat. But if you are even looking at this listing, you probably know this stuff already.

Description from Boat's Main Listing

Joel White designed the Haven Class boats as a centerboard version of the Nathanael Herreshoff-designed Buzzards Bay 12 ½ sloop, one of which (SHADOW) he had owned for nearly a half century.

Because Joel so respected the original 12 ½ design he set out to make the Haven Class boats perform exactly like their predecessors. With a smidge more beam and slightly filed-out bilges the stability numbers for the Havens are almost identical to the Herreshoffs, and with the whetted surface and sail areas also equal, it’s no surprise that along with keeping the classic Herreshoff aesthetic the same sailing qualities came along for the ride.

The chief advantage of the Haven Class sloops is, of course, their shallow draft which allows the boats to float in just a foot and a half of water. This opens quite a bit more acreage for skinny water sailing and allows for easy launching and hauling from a trailer. Trailerability vastly increases sailing opportunities as it’s easy to move the boat from one sailing venue to the next. A new adventure either dictated by the seasons or by the whim of the skipper.

Built by the Landing School in 2007, CAITLIN B is a fine example of a Haven Class Sloop that has seen little use but lots of tender loving care and is in near-new condition.

Includes custom galvanized Triad trailer, a Torqeedo electric outboard with removable side-mount bracket, and full cockpit and sail covers that were new in 2018. All seasonal paint and varnish was done by Artisan Boatworks in 2019.

CAITLIN B is in excellent condition and ready to launch.
