Off Center Harbor's Remarks
Atkinson, ME: home of famed canoe builders, restorers, and canoeing practitioners Jerry Stelmok and Rollin Thurlow. Atkinson is also where Jerry has set up Island Falls Canoe Company that built this beauty. Not surprisingly, Island Falls canoes are among the finest ever built.
Description from Boat's Main Listing
For sale is this beautiful Island Falls canoe named 1889. This model, derived from an ancient form, is arguably one of White’s earliest. It is just over 15′ in length and has the classic looks of the late 19th century canoes – a lovely upswept sheerline, tumblehome sides, and stylish reverse curves apparent at the decks and entries. She is stable enough for poling or fly-fishing, and is a pleasure to paddle either tandem or solo.
Included is a D-shaped hand-caned stern seat, ribs that are thinned as well as tapered at the gunwales, and the signature wrap-around stem bands. The hull is accented by black cherry gunwales and trim. This “1889 classic” is a unique and stunning canoe, 2-color painted.
This canoe is “as new” since I used it only a couple of times. It has a couple of light scratches, but otherwise is in gorgeous original condition. The original price was around $4,500.
