Off Center Harbor's Remarks
Sponson row boats and canoes were well known in Maine over the years because their extra buoyancy gave them extra stability for family fun or for bringing that lunker landlocked salmon over the side when the lake fishing season opened in the spring and the water was way too chilly for an impromptu dip. Check out this listing to see if this sort of boat is on your list of dream boats. If it is, give the seller a call and try to work something out. He seems pretty open to your next adventure.
Description from Boat's Main Listing
Rare 16′ Old Town double end row boat. 1957, wood canvas with sponsons. 2 rowing stations, 2 sets spruce oars. 1 owner ( plus Dads 10 kids). This is not a modified canoe. Extremely stable, fabulous family boat and great for kids, beach picnicking, swimming from. 2 people can sit on gunwales without capsizing. Wider than a canoe, built a little heavier, can also be paddled. Always garaged. The boat was used for decades on Narragansett Bay, RI. I have original sale docs, galv. trailer (frame in excellent cond., needs axel/spring assembly). My Dad has gone to smooth waters and our family would love to see the boat give pleasure to deserving people. 10 kids grew up with this boat. It was the heart of the family…after Mom. Water usable now, not perfect but good. Some additional sailing parts (lee boards). Building a Caledonia yawl now and open for barter on small outboard, good trailer or?… Open to discuss anything. Looking for around $2000. Call or e-mail…we can discuss. Located in Jamestown, RI. Easily shown.
