Off Center Harbor's Remarks
Shearwaters are great boats to row and seaworthy enough to take out into open water when wind and tide are right. Joel White, her designer, built one for himself and you could hardly keep him out of it.
Description from Boat's Main Listing
We are hoping to get my late brother’s Joel White Shearwater into good hands.
Dave Hildreth rowed and camped (really) on her for extended trips around Penobscot Bay for 15 years. He regularly rowed from the Benjamin River or Brooksville to the Fox Islands, Swans Island, and Isle-au-Haut, etc. etc. on extended trips. “A fair tide and light winds” were his mantra. We figured the boat has more than 350 miles under her bottom.
Built by Dave Hildreth and others approximately 20 years ago. Always kept on land after voyages.
May need some basic glass sheathing bottom repair and a paint job (no brightwork). Otherwise good to go, with oars, overnight anchor, life jackets, etc. An almost new over-the-road fitted trailer is an extra option ($2,000 total).
