The Somes Sound 12 1/2 designed by John Brooks is a lapstrake, centerboard version of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company original. Built with high quality plywood planking, she shouldn’t dry out nor leak if stored on a trailer in the garage for long periods. This means a family could “dry sail” her throughout the summer or even trailer her to different parts of the coast for vacations. No need for bottom paint, and possibly not even a need for a mooring. Think of it!

Classic Day Sailboat. Designed by John Brooks after the Herreshoff 12 1/2. Lapstrake construction. Hull is marine ply with penetrating epoxy both interior and exterior. Fore and Aft decks marine ply covered with dynel fabric. Mahogany Trim. 700 pound lead keel. All bronze screws and fittings. Custom hardware by J.M. Reineck. Custom triad trailer. Built in Vermont – barely sailed.
