Off Center Harbor's Remarks
Rarely does a boat answer its designer’s purpose as succinctly as this Drascombe Peterboat.
Description from Boat's Main Listing
(Was $12,000) Originally built by the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding to the lines of the 21’ Drascombe Peterboat, with a number of modifications to the hull and rig. Her design is inspired by the small open cruisers that sailed English coastal waters near the turn of the last century. Designers Albert Strange and George Holmes perfected the forms of these boats.
Katie is a gaff yawl, with the mainmast stepped in a tabernacle and a standing lug mizzen with a sprit boom. The cockpit has room to daysail six, and the cuddy cabin, with fitted mattresses, sleeps two in comfort. With the boom tent in place, the cockpit becomes a sheltered space for dining, lounging, and traveling under power. She sails well in 3-30 knots, and tacks in about 100 degrees. She’s easily trailered, easily singlehanded, beachable, and has proven dry and comfortable in all sea states she’s encountered so far. Her motion in a chop is especially agreeable for such a light boat.
Besides daysailing and racing in Port Townsend Bay, she has cruised the Salish Sea from Puget Sound to the Broughton Archipelago and the great inlets of Vancouver Island. She is welcomed and admired everywhere she goes. She comes equipped with a 2 hp Honda outboard and an EZ Loader trailer. Price is a reasonable $9,500 for boat, motor and trailer–ready to cruise!
