Off Center Harbor's Remarks
When Maynard Bray brought the modified Herreshoff Buzzards Bay 15 FLICKER to Center Harbor in Brooklin, Maine, we thought of it as a perfect daysailer and managed to sail with Maynard as often as he would have us, which was often indeed. Now here is another one, and essentially brand new at that.
Description from Boat's Main Listing
(Was $160,000) The original Buzzards Bay 15s were designed by Nathanael Herreshoff in 1898 for the Beverly Yacht Club and known as the E-Class. In 1907 Herreshoff designed a full-keel version of the Buzzards Bay 15 incorporating the following modifications:
-Ballast keel lowered from 2′ 3″ down to 3′ 1″ and weight increased 500 lbs.
-Sheer raised 2″, Cockpit lengthened 8″ and widened 6″
-Mast diameter increased so as to eliminate running backstays.
These modifications resulted in a classic daysailer that maintains the stunning looks of the original Buzzards Bay 15, but is easier to sail, more comfortable, and can stand up to more wind.
WHISPER is a new full-keel Buzzards Bay 15 built by Artisan Boatworks in 2010. Planking is carvel cedar, edge-glued and fastened over steam-bent frames and a laminated mahogany backbone.
She has been professionally maintained always and is in “as new” condition. Included are a 2010 Triad Trailer, Shaw & Tenney boat hook and paddle, dock lines, and fenders, anchor with rode, and required safety equipment.
WHISPER is in Mystic, CT, and ready for immediate delivery.
