Description from Boat's Main Listing
GRAYCEFUL was built in 1972 in Denmark by Borge Borresen. Mr. Borresen earned the nickname “Mr. Dragon” due to the quality of the boats he has built. She is traditional plank-on-frame construction and has received extensive care over the years by Benjamin River Marine of Brooklin, Maine. Frames and “backbone” are white oak. Planks are mahogany, finished bright, fastened with bronze fasteners. The wood deck is overlaid with Dynel set in epoxy resin. Cabin top is laid teak. Her hull and all brightwork were “wooded” down to bare wood, recoated with 2 coats of clear sealer followed by 10 coats of spar varnish.
The INTERNATIONAL DRAGON was designed by JOHAN ANKER, one of the world’s most formidable designers, in 1929 to be a small cruising boat, complete with 2 bunks, to be sailed off the coast of Norway. Even though interrupted by WW II the design quickly gained popularity and in 1948 was selected as an Olympic Class boat, an honor it retained and sailed in Olympic Games until 1972. Its popularity is affirmed by the fact that approximately 1400 Dragons are registered around the world even this many years after leaving the Olympics. Hundreds more owners simply enjoy the pleasures of day sailing. DRAGONS, while absolutely beautiful to look at are even better sailers as they are foremost SAILBOATS where artistic form delightfully meets function.
