Off Center Harbor's Remarks

Ohlson 35’s were imported from Sweden in the late '50s and early '60s in considerable number. They sail beautifully and have been long regarded as wonderful couples boats with room for a couple of kids. ELLIDA appears to have been thoughtfully maintained by longtime and loving owners and the fact that she has lived in fresh water for the past 31 years indicates that fastenings and hardware will be in far better shape than they would be if she had been sailed all those years in the ocean. Whether this also applies to her gas Atomic Four is something to be looked into.

Description from Boat's Main Listing

ELLIDA is a 1958 Ohlson 35 yawl, designed by Einar Ohlson and built by the Ohlson Brothers in Gothenburg, Sweden, as part of a racer/cruiser class intended for export to the United States. In 1984 her present owners purchased her in Belfast, Maine, and moved her to Lake Champlain where she has remained. Over the years she has been carefully maintained and upgraded, including new ribs, new deck, new planking as needed, new floor timbers as needed, new keel timber, new stem, and new sails as needed. For the past twenty plus years she has been winter stored under cover, receiving annual attention to paint and varnish. Topsides, bottom, and bright work were all redone in the spring of 2018. Speed and depth meters were replaced in 2015.

ELLIDA retains a traditional layout below. Just inside the companionway is a galley with sink and ice box to starboard and a two burner, non-pressurized, alcohol stove to port. Counter top extends along both sides and under the companion way giving ample work space. A sliding panel over the stove serves as a chart table. Forward is the saloon with comfortable extension settees on each side. There is storage behind and beneath both settees. The saloon is graced by brass oil lamps as well as electric reading lamps. Not shown is a portable centerline folding table. The stainless steel water tank fits below the cabin sole. Forward of the saloon is a head to port with marine toilet and sink, and two hanging lockers to starboard. This is followed by the forward cabin which contains a vee berth and an insert that creates a spacious double. Drawers under the berths provide storage.

Sails include main, numbers 1, 2, and 3 genoas, storm jib, mizzen, mizzen staysail, and a spinnaker. All but the number 1 genoa and the spinnaker are in good to very good condition.

Above decks ELLIDA shows the traditional Ohlson round cornered cabin and coaming construction. Cabin sides, cockpit seats, toe rails, hatches, grab rails and dorade boxes are of varnished mahogany. The shroud rollers are of ash. Her white topsides, varnished sheer strake and varnished cabin sides/coamings turn heads in any harbor.
Over the years she has garnered an impressive collection of best in class or best in show awards at the Lake Champlain Antique and Classic Boat Society boat shows.

After 34 years her present owners are downsizing their wooden boating activities in order to pursue other interests. ELLIDA is currently in the water and ready to sail on Lake Champlain.
