Off Center Harbor's Remarks

BALD EAGLE is a salty little schooner with an exceptional pedigree. Built by Bud McIntosh and then rebuilt by Harold Burnham years later, she can be easily sailed by a couple or the whole family with all the qualities bound to make her a treasured family boat for a generation or more: sea-worthiness, ease of handling, authenticity, and above all, wicked good looks.

Description from Boat's Main Listing

“Bald Eagle is the schooner we’d want to own if we didn’t have Redbird. No comparison; Redbird is unique but Bald Eagle is a far better sailor, true to the SS Crocker-designed boats. The next stewards of this classic will be lucky owners of a New England gem.” –Daisy Nell, Chair of Gloucester Schooner Festival

“Anyone with an interest in practical cruising yachts, boats with good looks and sailing qualities, will have to consider a Crocker boat when choosing a design.” — Joel White

“Among the cognoscenti in the field of traditional wooden boats, his name (Bud McIntosh) was uttered with a special kind of awe…and amazement.” — Jon Wilson, Founder of Wooden Boat

“The common wisdom is that he (Harold Burnham) is the most intuitive of all living shipwrights today.” — National Heritage Fellowships, National Endowment for the Arts website

Bald Eagle is a classic small schooner, 37’ S.S. Crocker design. Built by Bud McIntosh in 1955 with a 2002 total rebuild by Harold Burnham, Essex MA. Comfortable, sea-kindly, and beautiful. Easily sailed with two. She has many 2017-2020 upgrades that include traditional white raised panel/mahogany trim interior, wiring, electronics, LED lights, sails, and tankage. Competed successfully for many years at the Gloucester Schooner Festival.
