Off Center Harbor's Remarks
What a treat it is to see THISTLE available on the market. Without question one of the most beautiful yachts ever built, she is a substantial vessel yet at the same time handy enough for a couple to take cruising along the New England Coast.
Description from Boat's Main Listing
A shallow draft cruising boat, THISTLE was designed by Crowninshield, Burbank & Howard for a client in Duxbury, and built by the famed George Shiverick of Kingston, MA in 1928. In the early 1950’s THISTLE (then called JANET) was owned by Ray Hunt (designer of the Concordia yawl) and raced with good success. THISTLE’s current owner, an engineer by trade, has continuously restored, maintained, and upgraded THISTLE in a purpose-built shop in Harpswell, ME for the past 40 years.
Her curving varnished masts and short bowsprit are unmistakable in any harbor, and the character and warmth of her varnished interior would be impossible to replicate. Simply put, THISTLE is a floating symphony of history, engineering, and craftsmanship – In excellent condition yet quite pure in her antiqueness.
THISTLE offers a versatile cruising rig, and with her 2004 Yanmar engine, ABYC compliant propane stove, super-insulated ice box with refrigeration, and fully up-to-date navigation electronics and autopilot, she is ready for her next stewards to step aboard and head for the horizon.
