Off Center Harbor's Remarks
A boat from a more elegant time, this Monk cruiser will be the talk of any harbor she enters and is sure to make life aboard comfortable beyond telling.
Description from Boat's Main Listing
In 1947, Mr. Frank Hawkins, a prominent Seattle auto dealer, commissioned Edwin Monk, Sr. to design a 43′ bridge-deck cruiser to accommodate his love of fishing and his desire to cruise to Alaska. The result is the incomparable JOSEPHINE, built by Blanchard Boat Yard with 1″ western red cedar planking, wedge-seamed above the waterline, held to a fir backbone and 1-1/4″ oak frames by bronze fasteners. JOSEPHINE sports an airy interior, amazing visibility, and an unusually large cockpit and aft deck. Her interior design allows for comfortable living for two while easily accommodating ten or more for dinner and an evening cruise. After 17,000 hours of professional restoration, JOSEPHINE is as “done” as a wood yacht can be. She was the proud winner of the Pacific Northwest Classic Yacht Association Restoration Award and People’s Choice Awards, JOSEPHINE embodies the perfect balance of “restoration” and “new,” combined in a yacht that is both elegant and modern. To say her restoration, and her current owner of 30 years, is “meticulous” would be an understatement. A current survey and pictures are available HERE. Consistent maintenance retains her desirability, and covered moorage is available. She’s lying in Seattle.
