Off Center Harbor's Remarks

Clearly, this boat may not be for everyone. But that doesn’t mean you can’t kick back and do a little dreaming about a boat that could be a mobile waterfront camp for the family in a cove or harbor on Eastern Long Island or on the Maine Coast. Or a boat that could get you out of the northern winter by sailing her along the south coast of Cuba. Or a boat that could land you in New Zealand or Tahiti. She is sturdy and reportedly well-found and totally handsome from every angle. So sit back and heed her siren call for a moment before you have to jump in the car and go to work.

Description from Boat's Main Listing

The hermaphrodite brigantine (or schooner for short) ACTRESS was designed by Murray Peterson in 1937 and built in East Boothbay, Maine in 1983. Originally named OLIVER C. WEYANT, she is planked with long leaf yellow pine over laminated oak frames and is in very good structural condition.

The current owner, a professional rigger, has made numerous improvements including replacement of the aft cabin top, complete rewiring, replacement of the head and holding tank, and interior outfitting so that ACTRESS can sleep nine in comfort. This spring, ACTRESS is in the water under cover where the deck has been stripped and re-oiled and all seasonal maintenance is being performed. By early June she will be outfitted and sailing.

For the past two years ACTRESS has operated out of Belfast, ME, offering daysails, overnight charters, and sail training – including two weeks with the WoodenBoat School in Brooklin, ME. The website, promotional materials, and other business assets will be included with her sale and there is the opportunity to continue operating from Belfast.

ACTRESS would be the perfect little ship for sail training or overnight passenger-carrying trips – although not Coast Guard certified for more than six passengers, she certainly could be. Alternatively, one could easily imagine her with a family and a couple paid hands aboard, anchored in quiet lagoon somewhere in the South Pacific.
