Email This Page to a FriendPreview: Storm in the Labrador aboard DRAKEN
February 26, 2020
Launched in 2012, the largest modern Viking longship DRAKEN HARALD HÅRFAGRE set out in 2016 to retrace early Viking explorations across the Atlantic. Here, DRAKEN and her crew face icebergs and 40-knot winds in the Labrador Sea. Today, even with drone and helicopter footage of intense sailing commonplace, the sight of the low-freeboard, square-rigged double-ender bobbing in massive, ice-laden seas is stunning. It's unfathomable to think of what it was like a thousand years ago.
