OUR MISSION:

Our mission is to help the world of classic and wooden boats thrive and grow for generations to come as we work to:

  • Provide instruction and inspiration for enthusiasts, students and those who work in the trade
  • Create gathering places on the web that provide valuable knowledge and connect the entire world of classic boats, while also supporting live events that do the same
  • Bring members aboard the best classic boats and into the workshops of the top masters
  • Help us all learn to live by L.F. Herreshoff’s motto: “Simplicity Afloat Is the Surest Guarantee of Happiness”

100% MEMBER-SUPPORTED:

Off Center Harbor has been supported 100% by members who pay a modest annual fee of $49, and we have kept the fee as low as possible so everyone can participate and benefit. We do not accept advertising so that we can show exactly what products the pros use (and how they use them) without ever letting advertisers affect the quality or depth of the information presented for current members and for future generations. So, in many ways, OCH members are responsible for the growth and success of this endeavor.

A FEW OF OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS TOGETHER:

Working with the support of members, here’s what we’ve all accomplished over our first 10 years:

  • Created the Off Center Harbor website that has inspired and instructed many thousands of people in over 75 countries
  • Created the largest worldwide digital network of any organization within this field
  • Produced over 600 high-quality videos that bring classic boats to life, including five complete A-to-Z boatbuilding courses
  • Traveled to countries that have a rich maritime histories to record their boats, skills and cultures
  • Created the Worldwide Classic Boat Show to bring the entire world of classic boats together
  • Created Dream Boat Harbor which has quickly become the best place to buy and sell classic boats
  • Created plans and kits to build two exceptional boats that are now being built in 6 countries

WE’VE ONLY JUST BEGUN:

As we celebrate these accomplishments on our 10th Anniversary, it feels like we’ve barely begun. We see so much more that we can do to build this endeavor into a hub for connecting the entire world of classic boats, helping it thrive, and most importantly, making sure the skills, boats and enthusiasm are passed on to future generations. As we do this, we see a growing urgency to document these skills around the globe before they are lost.
