Practical, affordable and seaworthy, this latest Sam Devlin trailerable motorsailer, designed for the home builder, is a veritable pup tent of  a boat ready to take you through the misty travails of Northwest weather all the way (if that is your pleasure) to Alaska.

A really good looking boat. It might be the perfect cruiser for an elderly couple, like my wife and me at age 70. I can imagin cruising her in the Baltic Sea, my favourit playground. But I would certainly opt for a junk rig, because if you want or have to reef, it would be no fun to crawl on the foredeck.

I am curious about the interior. Perhaps the video could be edited to include views of the interior layout …..

Lovely versatile design. Not often achieved.
I think that could get a following down here in Aus and NZ.
More so in New Zealand with its changeable weather.
‘Aotearoa’ …. Maori name for New Zealand, meaning ‘The land of the long white cloud’
Would be a good choice for top of the south Island , similar cool cruising area some what sheltered from the open sea.

Can’t believe I missed this boat at the show. Always great to hear the designer talk about and explain the rationale behind design choices.

Love the design. There is something to be said for a very practical compact boat just like this one.

    David Jeffery says:

A more recent incarnation of this design is Devlin’s full-keel version, which is explained and shown on his site. That version may be better for some, but it looks considerably more difficult to launch and retrieve.

      Great boat choice!
I had seen the plans for this one in W.B. magazine, but had a hard time visualizing proportions and details. Great to see one built and hear Devlin’s explanation.
