The rescue tape (?) wrapped around the shackle levers is brilliant. Twice over the years I’ve had the mainsail shackle part separate dropping the sail, leaving the halyard jammed at the masthead. This would have helped to prevent that. Thanx
Would love info on the rescue tape for not having heard of it before.

Rescue tape was originally a military product usable for almost any repair a tape could wrap. It tolerates water, hot water, some solvents, and seals to itself when applied in layers. It is now available in hardware stores and through ‘tool&supply’ catalogs. I got mine at an Ace True Value. My electronics parts supplier also carries it.

    Good afternoon,

I was sailing back from Boca Chica Panama to my home in Costa Rica with a couple of friends. One of them told me about this site and your videos. I was very interested in your fabricated forestay bracket. Are there any drawings available??
    Great boat,

    Cheers,

    Don

Wow, thanks Dan! Sounds like you are doing it right. Learning on smaller boats also gives you the idea of knowing what you can do without as much as what you need. Though simplicity can also have its drawbacks (for example, we were one of the only boats to have neither freshwater shower nor water maker, and we did just fine,) the satisfaction of arriving someplace and going out to play rather than having to work on repairs cannot be overstated. We’re happy that these old-fangled ideas are finding homes on other boats.

What a fantastic vessel! Thank you Karen and Jim for sharing her with us. I am a fledgling sailor who has dreamt of retirement aboard a large cruiser. I’m now within a decade or so of retirement and learning how demanding and rewarding a small cruiser can be. I own (or perhaps she owns me) an O’Day 22, Christened “Fiato,” and try to make an improvement to her every week to make her more comfortable and suitable for cruising. I’m incorporating many of your ideas from Sockdolager. Keep the videos and advice coming. You are an incredible inspiration to those of us who dream of living the salty, windy life. Cheers!
