Preview: The Inside Passage to Alaska

Part nature film, part super yacht advertisement, this video is chock full of great scenery from the inside passage to Alaska. Faults can be found with it — the soundtrack can be gloomy and the narration melodramatic — but the camera work is good, and it watches as a sort of video guide to inside passage. I like the somber, mellow music and his narration, along with the realistic points about the difficulties, as well as the beauty rewards. What would bug me is some touristy glitzy overlook showing all the perfect stuff without any hint of the rugged nature, and what it may take to be there. Oh, I should mention that right at this moment my sailboat is in a hurricane warning, located south of Prince Rupert, along this route…seas are expected to reach 15-20 meters in nearby areas.

Dolorous score and narrative do lend a somber tone, but the places are indeed awesome (in the true sense of that word) and might be said to enhance the spirituality of this “desk chair” cruise. I enjoyed every minute of it! Back to work now, slacker!

Great video. As someone, above, said–we get to see a part of the world we will never see. LOL–love the comments about the music. It was fine with me. Looking forward to seeing Part Two. Thank you so much. God bless you.

Nice video to watch, with coffee in hand. A good start to my morning.

And thanks, guys, for keeping this Flotsam section so active. It helps to hold me over in between your production videos.

No doubt! It’s the scenery we’re most interested in… and yeah, it’s funny how it’s all about the gloomy music and what could go wrong in these ‘treacherous waters’… aren’t we supposed to be having fun!?

Thanx for sharing this Erik. What an absolutely awesome world we live in and this short video offers many of us a chance to see scenery that we will probably never get witness in person. Looking forward to Part 2 or more!

Boat advertisement indeed but a pretty nice boat, helped my workday. Somebody needs to give this guy different music.
