Preview: Expedition to the End of the World

If the trailer’s any indication, this could make for quite an entertaining viewing. Anyone seen the full film? It’s $5 to rent. The schooner appears to be a beauty.

Filmmaker’s description: ̶An adventure film for the 21st century, EXPEDITION TO THE END OF THE WORLD takes an irreverent, philosophical look at humanity and our effect on the world around us. On a three-mast schooner packed with artists, scientists and ambitions worthy of Noah or Columbus, a crew sets sail for the end of the world: the rapidly melting massifs of Northeast Greenland. It is an epic journey, with the brave explorers on board encountering polar bear nightmares, Stone Age playgrounds and entirely new species. But in their meetings with these new and unknown parts of the world, the crew is also confronted with the existential questions of life.”

One Response So Far to “Expedition to the End of the World

I watched this film over the weekend… It’s an independent German documentary. I can’t say it’s worth the $5 really. It lacks a coherent storyline or character development. You’re thrown into the setting of an unexplored fjord in Iceland with a hodge podge cast of real scientists, artists, etc. It’s an interesting and beautiful setting, and the ship is a beauty, but the movie falls flat. Lots of philosophizing, but I found the characters’ perspectives to be uncompelling. Reminded me of the over-intellectualized perspectives of elite academia. These people seem unable to really connect with nature and the landscape and are too absorbed in their own narrow perspectives to have much compelling to say.
