Preview: Surgery For TODDY II by Dr. Brion Rieff

When Cy Hannon bought Atlantic Boat Co. here in Brooklin, he discovered that he’d inherited an old boat that had been abandoned and was lying in the bushes. He dragged her out and discovered the 29-foot McIntosh cruising sloop TODDY II built back in 1964—and determined shewas well worth saving. But her keel timber needed replacing—you could see this from the outside.

” HOW TO BUILD A WOODEN BOAT ” was my bible.. it took 4 years for me to build my own boat.. from harvesting the tress and milling them to launching this past spring.. she is a Stadel Cutter plan #60 from wooden boat..and Bud Macintosh was my constant companion..

Beautiful work. Just a question: how much would it cost all this excellent work?

“Bedbugs”! I will use that instead of bed logs from now on. Thanks, Maynard!

      Hi Dave,
Glad you’re scrutinizing my writeup! This isn’t the first time I’ve been fooled by MSWord’s “autocomplete” feature—but it’s by far the funniest. I just turned off that feature and corrected “bedbugs” to “bedlogs.” (We don’t want bedbugs under TODDY’s engine.) Thanks again for your proofing.

Autocorrect and autocompete fails can be so hilarious. Love ’em!

    Maynard,
I believe I was the last one to sail Toddy II before she was hauled (more than 20 years ago). So happy to see her rebuilt. I actually removed the carburator to rebuild it, but lost track of the owner. Believe it or not I still have the carburator if anyone is looking for it.
