She is pretty, she was listed for sale as was the American Eagle, both Northend Shipyard schooners. Any word on the sale of either. Saw Isaac Evans sold and is being renamed? Also saw John Foss sold Cadet, his tug. This group are amazing people, more on their shipyard would be awesome. Don’t let John get away without showing off American Eagle.

Though I have been a member here at OCH for about a year, I just stumbled on this video ten minutes ago, when YouTube threw the 90 second trailer for it in my Suggested List. How wonderful.
I was in seminary in the early 80s, in love the romance of wooden boats, and, of course, a subscriber to WoodenBoat Magazine, which did, I believe, a series of articles on Heritage as she was being built by the Lees. Though I’ve never been to Maine, and never seen her in person, I’ve loved her all these years.

I sailed on Heritage’s week-long trips for three Septembers in a row back in the mid 1980’s. They remain as my all time favorite vacations. Captains Doug and Linda were superb hosts and the fellowship with everyone on board was amazing. I would love to do it again but Maine is a far distance from Washington state.

What a wonderful coincidence. We will be aboard the Heritage this fall for our first such cruise ever. I have followed her story in print and video over the years and enjoyed sharing this with my first mate, as we get through the last, I hope, of this Michigan winter.

Just one complaint: The footage of HERITAGE under sail, shot from a chase boat off her beam, lasts seven seconds. I needed seven minutes.
There is nothing—absolutely nothing—on earth as beautiful as a big schooner under sail.

Last summer I got to take the helm of the 100′ schooner ADVENTURESS on an evening sail for a while. Although I’m a relentless advocate for small boats, this was a pretty special and memorable event.

We are planning a video on yawl boats, the small powerful push boats these schooners use in lieu of an auxiliary engine. The Heritage will be featured in that one too, and we will try to include as much sailing footage, once the yawl boat is hoisted clear on the stern davits, as we can. I guess we should also add a tour down below of these schooners as another video to shoot this summer.
