Preview: OCH’s Trail Angel

Chances are, when you contact us at OCH, you’ll reach Emma. She joined us in October after hiking 2,189.2 miles from Georgia to the top of Mt. Katahdin here in Maine. That’s the full length of the Appalachian Trail (the “A.T.”).

On the A.T., there are people known as “trail angels” who voluntarily take care of the through-hikers by showing up unannouncd, in the middle of the wilderness, with an unexpected boost of food, hospitality, and hope. “Trail Magic”, it’s called.

An amazing story. I will put this in my toolbox as a mental health worker to pass on to my clients trying to heal.

What a beautiful, thoughtful man in this video.
May he find peace in giving to others, as well as to himself.
    Thanks for sharing.

This man’s experience of crisis paved the way to a life of meaning and wholeness….what a great story of recovery and unfolding of the self. In the long run, service seems to bring meaning and peace in ways consuming and “aquiring” cannot. Inspirational.

I live in Australia where our trails or “bushwalks” are a little different, not as well promoted or travelled as your AT, but like natural country everywhere wonderful & restorative.
I watched “A Walk in the Woods” recently…& then a video on Small Boats Monthly about the Donnie Mullen’s inaugural through paddle of the NFCT.
You have some beautiful wilderness in your part of the world, wonderful to see people coexisting harmoniously with it and each other.
