Did I miss something? It was all just tacking together 1×3’s, making the frames from the lofts, and cutting off the ends. Stand them up on centerline and screw them in place. I can follow that (not sure I can make it look easy but I can follow). When did we cut out slots for the stringers? Wouldn’t it be easier to do that before you assemble the frames? But then how do you know where they go? Dado? Saw and chisel? Please don’t edit for time. Some of us are really trying to learn!

I had the same question (how to make the notches, that is)

Late to boat building. It is the only thing that makes me wish I were a kid again. I hope these youngsters know how fortunate they are.

I see you are teaching terminology as you go. That’s great, because instead of theory it is applied in the moment.

Love the shop dog mascot. the dog can be a nice stress reliever for the kids when the going gets tough.

Nice to see kids with hand-on boat-building….but GREAT to see a Bernese Mountain Dog roaming around the shop with the kids!

Terrific, a pleasure to watch the young folks learning without resorting to computers……learning to work with their hands will stand them in good stead for a lifetime.

Great video. keeping it simple is the key with the kids, and the adults as well. Can’t wait to get my grandson involved in this. Making a boat and making memories at the same time. Keep sending out more videos.

Oke, there’s an article in the WoodenBoat magazine by Sam Manning that has beautiful drawings and a very comprehensive index with the names of the parts of the boat itself as well as of some of what you encounter building, e.g. Ribbands.

Go for it and build with your grandchildren, you’ll have the time of your life and they’ll love it and you’ll end up having a great boat to enjoy together. Hans

The videos on building the skiffs are great. I wish you were closer to Ohio because my grandchildren would love doing a project like this. I know what you’re going to say, why don’t you do this yourself. I am formulating a plan to do just that but am a true novice when it comes to boat building and I’m finding it to be difficult to find a glossary of terms that you use in conjunction with a drawing that lists all the terms such as bow (front), stern( rear), fairing (smoothing or making straight), and the list goes on but I don’t know what the list is and am having trouble finding one. I think that this would be advantageous for many of your subscribers when they are trying to do something like this. I’m a woodturner and build furniture so I have all the tools but do not have a glossary of terms, but I am looking. Do you think there might be others that would benefit from a glossary, especially the young folks and us old ones in the twilight of our years with no experience with boats that have grandchildren that hunger for a life with boats? Thanks for all the great information that you provide. Oke
