The Wineglass Wherry has the pedigree of designer John Lockwood, founder of Pygmy Boats. She’s well behaved and has the beam to swing long-enough oars, and she’s lean and light, so will row like a dream.

I built a Wineglass Wherry years ago. For several years I lived across the street from a tidal marsh with outlet to the Norwalk (CT) harbor. I left the boat in the water full time most years and used it very frequently, sometimes for a 45 minutes row… sometimes for a row to the Norwalk Islands. I used spoon oars. Sometimes in perfect weather. Sometimes in rough, windy weather. I felt that for one or two people the boat was perfect. I loved the dimensions and the weight and the beauty of the design. I loved building it. I loved varnishing it every year. I highly recommend this design and the kit to build it. sincerely, John Stuart

I’m glad to see the Wineglass Wherry on the list. I looked at this design 17 years ago before deciding a kayak. Now that my paddling range is shrinking, and a gaggle of grandkids to teach rowing skills, my current project is the Wineglass Wherry. I’m about two weeks out from completion.
