Somehow I’d missed this video on Riptide. In 2021 and 2022 I sailed my little open Devlin sloop in the Salish 100 small boat cruise when Riptide was the lead support boat. So great having a classic boat and a experienced mariner backing up a cruise of small boats, many with inexperienced sailors.

Really brought back memories. My Dad was forced to retire in 1948. We found a new home on a restored ( at the MacArthur Causeway Yard in Miami) 50′ Elco. I was 8 yrs old,and turned 9 on our way to Sarasota through Okeechobee, and the Channels, to the Gulf at Ft.Myers. Then up the coast to SRQ.Bay and home at the SYC.. Grandfather came to Florida in 1872. My ggAunt and husband bought three islands in the bay, and built a large home on Bird Key 1904. Lived on that boat for 5 years. Been sailing since.

Thanks for the video Pete. Seeing her underway and listening to your story after watching her deteriorate over many years is fantastic. Congrats and I look forward to seeing her in person soon. Larry

Wonderful video, I particularly like that this interview was done in the middle of a series of restauration stages and not when it was “finished”. I feel that captures the spirit of the journey and the relationship people develop with their boats. I can relate much more to the feeling of being somewhere in between dreaming and accomplishing the restoration and learning from his approach. Great find!

Great job Pete. Glad to hear that you are enjoying life and restoring a beautiful boat. Steve/Eric, there is another boat that you should showcase next time you are in Port Townsend, It is a 1928 Lake Union Dreamboat named Emmeline, owned by a former instructor at the NWSWB and his photographer wife. Pete knows the owner and I can also give you contact information if you are so interested, The boat has been kept in excellent original condition and I am sure the owner would be happy to show you the boat.

Yes, I’d most enthusiastically second that suggestion! (Thanks, Bill!) EMMELINE is a Pilothouse version of the Dreamboat, and is VERY original. s/Pete
