Launched in 2012, the largest modern Viking longship DRAKEN HARALD HÅRFAGRE set out in 2016 to retrace early Viking explorations across the Atlantic. Here, DRAKEN and her crew face icebergs and 40-knot winds in the Labrador Sea. Today, even with drone and helicopter footage of intense sailing commonplace, the sight of the low-freeboard, square-rigged double-ender bobbing in massive, ice-laden eas is stunning. It’s unfathomable to think of what it was like a thousand years ago.

Exquisite ship, handling, crew ………. for all the sea tumult the bow is so beautifully dry with flare and easy rising … like some perfect skimmer that yet is so rooted and stable … just dancing through it all ……… COLD! And sailing upwind with the cocked squaresail …
