Once I get a second coat of epoxy on the boat’s interior, I will commence assembly of the bulkheads, thwarts, daggerboard trunk, etc. In preparation, I am epoxying each piece beforehand, while it’s easy to reach, move, lay flat (I am lousy at epoxy and always seem to have runs). The best place to do this and be able to do more than a piece or two at a time – is on the rarely used pool table. Covered up the table top with heavy floor covering paper, and really warmed up the epoxy resin (soaked both jugs in hot water in my workshop sink for about a half hour before mixing).
Wow, what a difference. I have always just used the epoxy at room temp. Warming it up made it very viscous and easy to roll out in a very thin, non-runny, non-pooling layer. I learned a good lesson – besides your room needing to be warm – it’s easy to warm up the epoxy. Once I started rolling it out – I remembered that the various build series on OCH do show the builders heating their epoxy with work lamps and such. Now I know why!
