Deeply enjoyable video. The narration and the sound of the water and the oars thunking against the oarlocks is almost like being there. One of my favorite rituals is a slow sail, row or motor around the fleet in a new harbor, checking out the boats- their design, construction, condition. Always a treat for the eye. You’ve brought this experience to my desktop. Bravo!

Fantastic, very special!! Always a great way to view boats, from their water level, listening to what going on topside, sound of the water against the hulls and the boat you’re in. Always been my favorite way to check out boats.
Thank you so much for this special video.

Lovely! Reminded me of one of my favorite things to do: row around the Gloucester Schooner Fest in the morning before the races. Pretty small in relation to Port Townsend Festival, but the video brought back the smell of bacon and coffee, the chatter of crew, and wonder at all the work and love that goes into classic wooden boats. Thanks!

I’m very THANKFUL for that video. That is the very best way to see boats and I love ’em all.

Also, a friend/client who had owned (and/or still owns) MARIONETTE had always wanted me to come out to see her and there she was …lookin’ so right ! I was wow’d to see RAGE too.

Thankyou a thousand times. That row around was so real, it brought back a bucketful of memories. I feel like crying and yet I’m so happy to be part of the OCH family. What a Pandora’s box those kids have got before them. Thanks again, Graham

Creative and a great way to see the vessels from the water. Could you explain why many of the commercial and commercial/pleasure boats have a vertical planking or sheathing on the bow. Thanks and keep up your terrific videos. Paul

      Tony Jarvis says:

With the plumb stem and no bowsprit the sheathing protects the bows from anchor damage. Also, theres lots of logs floating around in the PNW. The sheathing protects the hull from impact. You’ll also often see thick boards running the full length of the hull just above and below the waterline for the same reason.

Hey Bruce. Maybe you know something we don’t. We see it as the “Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival” everywhere we look, including their own website. Definitely put on by the amazing folks at the Northwest Maritime Center though.

Beautifully done, Eric. I am on the opposite end of Washington, but felt like I was sitting on the opposite end of your rowboat!

Great look around the harbor and a beautiful morning,… Thank you!! To Seawitch’s port side on the adjacent dock is Andy and Kristin Stewart’s boat Windsong (Anacortes, Emerald Marine), and her charming tender, Wow, built by Andy. Windsong is a Ralph Winslow design built in the south Puget Sound in 1962.

Wonderful! We couldn’t make it to the show this year and this video helps compensate. What a clever idea to show the boats from the water. Really enjoyed this.

I enjoyed that, nice to see it from the other side — e.g. not from the dock.
