Good eye, Andrew. She’s the coastal pocket cruiser JEWELL design by Francois Vivier. We have a video on that boat so I’ve added it to the “Related Videos” above. Thanks for that, as we hadn’t picked it up.

Awesome–that was my very amateurish guess, and I really enjoy that Jewell video. It’s interesting to see Jewell and Chebacco side by side.

Aesthetically an interesting choice. I love Chebacco’s lack of boomkin and lack of sidestays. On the other hand, how much longer would setting up that bowsprit take compared to Jewell’s modest sidestay and boomkin?

Maynard or Doug, what is that small fashion piece down low on MOLLY B’s transom? A step for re-boarding? Is or are there one or more on the rudder underwater? The harbor tour was great, especially with photos taken from the beautifully cared for ABACO, perfectly painted in great colors. More from Benjamin River please! There are many more lovely boats moored there since the last time we were in a decade ago. We’ll definitely come though this summer and hope to find a spot to anchor and row around to admire such variety.

Thanks Maynard and Doug for a tour of Benjamin River,
Chebacco boats are the most aesthetically pleasing of Phil Bolger’s designs. Lily Catchpole, lapstrake and bowsprit is the nicest of the three types. Hats off to the builder’s skill and eye.
Two questions. Is it difficult to hove to and shorten sail? Is it a handful to sail alone?
    Thanks

      Hi Julian,
Thanks for your interest; the boat is absolutely fine to single hand, a lot my sailing in her is that way. On the other hand she’s fine with five adults, six is possible, but gets a little crowded for maneuvering. With the mizzenmast centered she sits quietly for shortening sail. Sometimes the end of the boom will want to hang over the coaming and for that reason it’s good to lead the reefing lines quite far forward. Hope I’ve answered your questions.

        Hi Howard,

I saw Steven Bauer the other day at Clint Chase’s open house at his Boatshop. Wish you could have made it.

Howard, what did you use for a roller on the bowsprit for the anchor? BTW, love that boat!

These videos are too short and too far between. That may sound like a complaint but it’s my highest compliment. Thank you! And please keep them coming.

Great video narrated by two favs discussing the Chebacco design which I’ve always admired, in a harbor I’m unfamiliar with.
