  A wonderful and educational series. A quick question – what type of plywood is used for the lofting floor, and what type of dimensional material does Peter use for his station molds?

    The lofting floor plywood is nothing special, just 3/4” pine plywood smooth side up and painted with flat white primer.
    The station moulds are built out of 2×8 spruce framing lumber with 1×8 spruce cross spalls

      Is glue typically used to fasten the various pieces of a mould together or are screws alone used for fastening? Are the moulds typically stored for potential future use after a project is completed or are they disassembled for use elsewhere?

        Yes I used yellow carpenters glue as well as screws to fasten the station moulds together.
        No sense in disassembling the moulds. Save them just in case someone wants a boat just like this one.

    Sorry for messing with your well-being with these new videos, Ralph. Peter is building the boat as we speak, so we’ll be releasing these every few weeks as he builds. Hard to predict an exact schedule because this is a real deal situation, as it happens. We’ll certainly try not to let you go too long without a “fix”.

  Absolutely amazing to watch how much work goes into lofting and making patterns. I cannot wait to view more episodes. This will help me and give me ideas to restore some areas of our 1905 Steamboat used for tours on Lake Minnetonka here in Minnesota.

  Really looking forward to these! I loved Peter’s earlier series on spiling and installing floors for his restoration of the Nellie H. Check them out if you haven’t already. It would great to have a video update on her.

    Thanks for asking about the Nellie, between covid and other issues the owner has had her on hold for quite some time but he was here this fall and wants to get back to work on her after this current project. She’s had quite a bit done since the last OCH videos but still has a ways to go.
