Preview: Greetings From Papua New Guinea by Tom Robinson

A quick update:

On Tuesday the 9th I flew into the capital of PNG, Port Moresby. The next morning I boarded my connecting flight to Alotau, Milne Bay.

Little did I know, as I was waiting at the airport, that later that morning the city of Port Moresby would descend into a state of civil unrest, with thousands rioting in the streets, widespread looting, major shopping outlets burne to the ground, and a confirmed 15 deaths. I was lucky to get out when I did.

Tom, Your strength of character and moral compass inspire me more than you can imagine. A colleague of mine once said that all he asked was to have a “…modest life, well lived…”. I guess that it is not for me to say, but I get the feeling that your life is being lived very well indeed. I admre your attitude and determination.

Tom- “Sleeping on the deck under the stars sharing food with the crew”. Thanks for jogging a memory. I recall doing that at your age aboard a mail boat between Caribbean islands. I was on my way back to rejoin college mates and resume studies after a passage sailing across the Atlantic. Enjoy!

Hello Tom, I am so glad you are reunited with Maiwar, I am speechless. Cant wait to hear the report of how she looks and what she needs to be seaworthy again.
    Cheers from Canada.

Tom, I think both you and Maiwar are tough, adventurous souls and you deserve each other. Best of luck with her rescue. She was well built and I’m sure she will be fine. Wayne
