The boat weight method is great. It is a very insightful use of existing levers (the trailer frame and axel). And I would like to stress its versatility. Those with boats that are out of the range of a bathroom scale (ok, a little size envy here), may find this method particularly useful. It would be rare for the trailer tongue weight to exceed the capacity of a bathroom scale and that is all that matters. The formula makes use of the difference in scale readings and the corresponding difference in the position of the load. The scale dos not necessarily see the full weight of the boat or other load.
I enjoyed the article. This is the sort of useful information that makes Off Center Harbor so valuable.

I love the phrase “the people of the forward stampede” It describes so much of what is wrong with the world of today. I must be one of the backward stampede — will have to read more of EF Schumacher to see if he has a phrase for the counter group.
