There’s a boathouse you should know about if you’re thinking about building or buying a classic boat… The Boathouse at Mystic Seaport Museum. And you shouldn’t miss it if you’re in New England, because you can climb aboard a wide variety of boats and row and sail them for a very modest fee ‘til your hearts’ content… if that’s possible for a person afflicted with OCHD (Off Center Harbor Disorder).

I’m very excited to here you can rent small classic wooden boats. I would like to sail a 12 1/2 or something similar and renting would be my only option.(unfortunately I’m not rich)
    Thanks for a great video!

Nice video but it didn’t really show the boathouse and all of the boats it contains. I was hoping to see some images of each of the various types of boats available. 2 stars.

I believe the boats available through The Boathouse livery may change from year to year. Perhaps you are you thinking of the Rossi Mill and their extensive collection of boats there (hundreds of them)? Or the Small Craft building where Alerion III and some of the collection’s catboats are on display (only)?

I recall our family vacation to New England some years ago with a fond visit to Mystic and
Bristol and the Museum there… Nice to look back through this video, we took out one of the Beetle Cats – great little boat.

Just watched the Boathouse video and it brought back memories. I first visited Mystic Seaport in 1980, having read about it in one of Eric Hiscock’s books, and was blown away by the beautiful setting on the Mystic River, the beautiful New England boats and the atmosphere of the place. I went back in 1999 , this time with my husband on his first visit. He was as impressed as I was. I don’t remember all the different boats being available to hire so next time I visit I will try some of them.
