Email this Video to a FriendIn Port Townsend at the Wooden Boat Festival , we stumbled upon a beautiful boat built by Paul Siefried, who has a passion not only for this traditional Pete Culler design but also for the fine bronze hardware of Port Townsend Foundry. It’s one of the finest examples of bronze hardware we’ve seen.

At 3:50, you mention the centerboard pin that goes through the lead casting of the ballast in the keel. Two questions on two of my boats: 1. 12′ Whitehall (new to me) that I plan to use as VALENCIA’s dinghy instead of tired Avon; I need to know how to rivet like I see done so well on this boat. 2. The centerboard pin on PETREL about an 80 year-old Moriches Bay 15′ sailing class boat I’ve had for 35 years. Son, Jackson, is restoring her. Question: her pin is a carved piece of hardwood. It leaks. What video/publication exists in your archives for his research on fitting a new, tight but still swelling, pin? Thanks for this great inspiration film/video. DougDay, Swan’s Island

Hi Eric, Are you keeping the name of this lovely boat a secret (can’t find it anywhere in the text). We were there in Port Townsend when you shot this very nice piece — probably exploring the town before the festival opened. Took some photos of a similar boat in the water near the Fountain Cafe. But your film is on the ‘hard.’ Did this boat get into the water, or did I miss it where you found it? — Bill Thomas.

Another well done Film. I dislike calling them videos. Videos are what you find on YouTube. Every thing I’ve seen on this site is something more. They are well produced. This film has given me some inspiration on details, something that I usually overlook.

Thanks Todd. We think of them as short films too. Kinda hard for us to say “film” when it’s technically video technology, but as someone who went to “film school” as a “filmmaker”, we produce them as we would a short film, and I’m thinking story structure as I’m shooting most of them.

I would be interested in a discussion, and examples of cockpit design for day sailors relating to seat height, seat width, backrest height and angle. Being over sixty I see a nice daysailor and think do I want to spend four to five hours in the cockpit. Flat Fish and Alerion appear to be the best I know of.

Thanks George. I am hoping we can do more shoots on hardware details in the future. It is hard to place hardware on a boat without other examples to look at. Hopefully “It’s all in the details will become a regular piece for us here at OCH.
