OffCenterHarbor.com asked our guides to share their favorite books that should be in every boater’s library…
NOTE: OffCenterHarbor.com asked the Guides to suggest “Three Books That Should Be In Every Boater’s (or Boatbuilder’s) Library. Here are Brion Rieff’s recommendations:
Elements of Yacht Design by Norman Skene (Intro by Maynard Bray)
This book takes you through the steps in creating a new design and preparing the drawings, using one of the author’s creations as an example. The book has both the Nevins and Herreshoff Rules for wooden yacht construction which, among many other things, cover the sizing of all the timbers used in wooden boat construction. It also has many forulas and tables used in designing. This is a good all-around book for someone interested in boats. If I only had only one book in my library, this would be it. Get the 1962 or later edition.

Michael McClure says:
Interesting choices…they are in my library already….and I agree…must haves!
