Off Center Harbor's Remarks

This lightly used (she was reportedly stored in a barn for 25 years) little gem appears to be in like-new condition. Ready-and-waiting for new owners who will appreciate her well-executed construction and Scandinavian heritage.

Description from Boat's Main Listing

(Was $16,500) Built in 1981 by Chip Stulen, she sailed on Lake Michigan for two years before barn storage for over 25 years. She is 20’4″ LOA, 16’3″ LWL, 6’4″ Beam, and draws 2’4″. She is a lapstrake double-ender of Atlantic white cedar on oak frames and is powered by an Electric Yacht 48v, QT5 inboard. All of her hardware is bronze and she comes with the original Easy Roller trailer.

I took possession in the fall of 2010.

My uncle, the designer, expected SIGI to be his forever boat but it didn’t turn out that way. After two years he put her in his barn and bought a Flicka. When he died, my aunt sold the Flicka and offered me SIGI. I towed SIGI from Michigan to my home in Arlington, VA, and set out to clean her up and retrofit a new engine. The original Kenmare engine was sitting on the barn floor when I picked her up. I wasn’t too keen about reinstalling an old gas engine that I was told was not very reliable so I started looking for a new diesel replacement; but none of the newer diesels would fit in the existing engine compartment; they were all too high. That’s when I discovered Electric Yacht at the Annapolis Sailboat show. I spent that winter installing the electric and patching damage to the forward, port sheer. I leased a slip at Herrington Harbour South, about 30 miles south of Annapolis and relaunched SIGI in the spring of 2011. I sailed her on Chesapeake Bay until 2018 then towed her to our retirement home in Wilmington, NC. SIGI was in covered storage for one year before launching her at Wilmington Marine Center in April 2019. The pictures of SIGI in the sling and in her slip are at WMC. I’ve been sailing her on the Cape Fear River since. There are a couple of reasons that I am putting SIGI up for sale now: First, I’m in my mid-70s and sailing is beginning to be too much work and not much fun, especially on the Cape Fear. Second and more important, the NC sun is super damaging to a boat like SIGI and I don’t want her to deteriorate in this climate. There are a couple of other things that I should mention.

– original sails
– roller furling jib
– sliding gunter rig
– four 10-year-old AGM batteries/onboard charger/Whale electric plus manual bilge pumps
– her sister ship was featured on the cover of 9/81 Small Boat Journal
