Off Center Harbor's Remarks

Dragons are terrific daysailers - we know these boats and they appear to be in excellent condition.

Description from Boat's Main Listing

SINGOALLA (translated means “a Norwegian seductress”) was built by Anders Gjeruldsen Batbyggeri (boatbuilders) of Grimstad, Norway in 1947. She is the second Dragon registered in the United States and carries sail # U S 2. She is traditionally constructed plank-on-frame. Her frames are white oak and her planks are Norwegian pine—quarter-sawn, full-length on the topsides and quarter-sawn Douglas-fir below the water. She is bronze fastened. She was given a keel up (to top of the mast) restoration by East Passage Boatwrights of Bristol, Rhode Island, and won an award for professional restoration at the prestigious Mystic Seaport WoodenBoat Show. Her new decks are Larch overlaid with Dynel set in epoxy resin. Covering boards and comings are mahogany. The new mast is aircraft spar-grade Sitka spruce. She remains in impeccable “ready to sail” condition. She has a custom-built galvanized trailer.

The INTERNATIONAL DRAGON was designed by JOHAN ANKER, one of the world’s most formidable designers, in 1929 to be a small cruising boat, complete with 2 bunks, to be sailed off the coast of Norway. Even though interrupted by WW II the design quickly gained popularity and in 1948 was selected as an Olympic Class boat, an honor it retained and sailed in Olympic Games until 1972. Its popularity is affirmed by the fact that approximately 1400 Dragons are registered around the world even this many years after leaving the Olympics. Hundreds more owners simply enjoy the pleasures of day sailing. DRAGONS, while absolutely beautiful to look at are even better sailors as they are foremost SAILBOATS where artistic form delightfully meets function.
