Off Center Harbor's Remarks

Seth Persson was a peerless boat builder and, of course, S&S was about as good as it gets when it comes to design. So AURORA ought to move up to the top of any serious boat buyer’s list.

Description from Boat's Main Listing

AURORA was well built and has been well maintained over the years. A 2018 survey done by Paul Haley from Capt. G.W.Full & Associates is available. The boat was originally designed for a doctor in Nantucket, MA, who wanted a boat she could sail singlehanded. As a result, AURORA is very easily sailed and like most S & S designs she sails very well.

Seth Persson built many nice boats during his career, building them one at a time by himself or with a small crew, and was known for craftsmanship and attention to detail. AURORA is evidence of Persson’s skill. One of the most famous boats he built is the Bermuda race-winning yawl FINISTERE. There’s a nice article on Persson and his boats in WoodenBoat magazine Jan/Feb 2011 issue #218. It appears that AURORA, launched as SANKATY III was the last boat he built.

Used for day sailing and cruising in New England with cruising to the Bahamas. Most recently sailed on Lake Michigan. All her several owners have maintained the boat well. She was idle for several years during the 1980s and ’90s but kept inside a damp shed.
