James Dodds was a boatbuilder before he became an artist, and his shipyard experience shines through in this film showing him loft and paint a 20′ X 4′ rendering of a Colchester Smack, the iconic fishing vessel of his native East Anglia. For those who admire the steps involved in the building of a wooden boat, this time-lapse video made by his daughter Mary and wife Catherine is a remarkably viewing exercise.

Dale Niemann says:
An extraordinary effort with such a beautiful result.
David Tew says:
What a wonderful project and interesting way to present it to the public! I’d love to have the skills and imagination to conceive and execute something like that, particularly the color selection, contrast, shading and hand lettering.
