I have yet to help build a boat like this but am constantly fascinated by the subtle differences in approaches. I noticed you didn’t lubricate the screws for the planking. Is that not necessary in cedar or for other reasons. I also noticed the use of phillips head screws. I imagine this goes back to one of your earlier comments about how building a wooden boat can be as cost effective as a one built in fiberglass, and the use of a phillips head is real time saver over a traditional slotted screw that can be cleaned out more easily in the future.

Can you comment on “hide-a-butts” rather than butt blocks? Butt blocks seem to be the source of leaks down the road, but I’d value your opinion? And I’ve only seen/used “hide-a-butts” in repairs/rebuilds.
Peter Buxton says:
By hide a butts I’m assuming you mean scarfed and epoxied?
What we’re doing here is trying to keep as traditional as possible.
Thank you.
