    Hi Nate,

Was that drone shot taken from a drone that follows you on it’s own? if So, what model is it? Thx. Nice video. We hope to be doing the same kind of cruise next week perhaps seeing for Maynard and ARAMINTA along the way.

Hi Dave. It’s one of the DJI drones. There are newer/better/cheaper/smaller models now and most of them track a subject IF you’re still swift enough of mind to follow the instructions or one of the tutorial videos online, that is. Before investing in a drone, a couple tips: a) determine where you’re going to land it if you’re on a boat (the props cut fingers), and b) find the model you think you want and then watch a couple of the top youtube videos on how to operate it. If your brain hasn’t exploded, go for it.

The solitude, the stillness, the only sounds those of the natural environment, the absence of human presence or habitation of any kind, is at once thrilling—in a Thoreau-at-Walden kind of way—and at the same time a source of disquietude, as if the solitary sojourner were the last human on earth. It’s a kind of revelation moment, what Heidegger seemed to have in mind in his exploration of Dasein (German, “being there”), of alitheia (Greek, “disclosure; unhiddenness”), which he characterized as the mode of the beholding of Being, a mode of Truth. He maintained that the fundamental question of metaphysics is, “Why are there things rather than nothing?” Meditating on that question led him to our human experience not just of existence but “Being.” That mode of thought has obvious analogies with Taoism and the Tao Te Ching and Zen Buddhism. Sitting in a forrest silence with his disciples, the former samurai-turned-Zen mystic poet Basho heard the slightest of sounds and articulated his famous haiku (17 Japanese syllables: “Furuike-ya. Kawazu tobi-komu. Miso no ato.” (Old pond: a frog jumps in. Sound of water.). This, I take it, is an instance of what Heidegger meant by “alitheia.”

My 15 person three generation family this morning was trying to decide whether to vacation on Lake Champlain or Martha’s Vineyard next summer. Seeing your video completely confuses the picture. I have spent many summers cruising the Penobscot Bay, and several staying at Oakland House on the Eggemoggin Reach, now under new management, many years ago. Now, instead of two fabulous options,we have three.

Sweet to see and hear the island sounds! Reminds me of years ago sailing to isle au Haut and an overnight in Carver cove among the rocks. Thank you!
