Boats like Porpoise, once I catch a glimpse of them, forever remain in my mind’s eye. A photograph, like the one here that I took in 1982, helps me refresh the images and reinforces

my dream of someday owning such boats. One dream finally became a reality in 2010 when I discovered Porpoise sitting on the hard in Rockland, Maine, just down Mechanic Street from where I grew up. Her owner had alerted me that he felt compelled to sell and asked if I knew of anyone who might be interested. I was hooked even before I looked, despite all the work I kew lay ahead to make her good again. Aware that she was special and wishing her the best, Jesse Henry accepted my low offer. Clearly he, as well as Anne and I, thought this was a boat worth saving. We already owned a sloop named
