Email This Page to a FriendPreview: BONNY BRIDE Progress — Restoring a Wooden Lobster Boat, Part 6 — Beginning to Repower
June 12, 2014
While it's premature to be messing around with engines on the BONNY BRIDE project, I went off on that tangent as I was able to work in the basement at odd hours. I decided that the big old Detroit 4-71 (aka "Jimmie") that the boat arrived with should perhaps be replaced with the nice little rebuilt Ford Lehman that was painted blue and sitting n my cellar. The advantages would be fuel economy, a quieter four-stroke engine, and a smaller package. The disadvantage would be less power. While I was still pondering these issues, I realized that the Ford is small enough to fit completely aft of the wheelhouse bulkhead with its oil pan down in the keel tunnel. This would give me a much smaller engine box.
