Whaleboat book

Hot on the heels of the visit by the Whaleship CHARLES W MORGAN to Vineyard waters comes the publication of this fine book from the extraordinary trio of three generations of boatbuilders (and writers): Willits (Will), Walter (Walt) and Evelyn (Evie) Ansel. Originally written by Will and published in 1978—and long out of print (and expensiveon the used book market), this revised, updated, and expanded edition of The Whaleboat just published by Mystic Seaport is a very welcome and necessary addition to any maritime library.

I have the original book and recommend it to those interested in sail and oar boats . The sailing rigs alone are well worth study .They’re powerful but can can be quickly dropped and stowed in the boat . Sprits ,booms and gaffs of bamboo are forerunners of our own high tech hollow spars.

Whaleboats were the Lunar Excursion Modules of their era. Everything needed to do the job at minimum weight and nothing more. Almost as disposable, too.
