The definition of lodestar is someone or something that guides, such as a star; Polaris (the north star or pole star) is referenced as such a lodestar. I’m not sure that Richard Wynne had this definition in mind when he founded Lodestar Books in London, but if he didn’t, his flourishing publishing business, begun in 2009, to publish long out of print an neglected maritime authors, has succeeded – perhaps beyond his wildest dreams — and has guided the paths of many grateful readers to “the very stuff of good reading.” From his website: “
