This first message just came in from SHELDRAKES’s owner and our friend Steve Corkery—a guy with loads of experience sailing all kinds of boats. SHELDRAKE is a plank-on-frame boat whose design and constructionwe really believe in and would like to see more like her built. She’s quite a boat for only 19 feet in overall length and, because of having no centerboard or hi-tech rigging can be built and maintained at a reasonable cost. (Designer Nat Benjamin estimates that Gannon & Benjamin could duplicate her for around $78,000.) Sure, she harks back to times past, but her weight makes her stable and her simplicity keeps the building cost comparatively reasonable.
