April 4, 2016
We just learned of a sailing opportunity that’s so rare and unique, we wanted to pass it along to OCH members…
The 50-foot sloop VELA is one of our favorite boats anywhere, and we just learned that she’s available for weekly charters on the Maine coast this summer!
In our opinion, there is simply no better way to sail the coast of Maine, because her owner/captain — OCH Guide Havilah Hawkins — is one of the most knowledgable mariners anywhere. Havilah is a first-rate instructor if you’re wanting to gain knowledge. This is the real deal.
VELA is available for charters between June 26th and Sept. 2nd.
CHARTER: Five-day cruises with captain (no bareboat charters).
FEE: $3,600 flat rate for up to six guests, plus food, wine, spirits.
CAPACITY & ARRANGEMENTS: VELA accommodates up to six friends or family members in addition to the captain. The accommodations and cruising style are fairly open and casual (there are no private staterooms), and guests will participate in the sailing, cooking, etc. some.
LEARNING: If guests would like to learn, along with enjoying a vacation of sailing the coast, Havilah is a wonderful teacher on a wide range of topics, including: choosing the right boat, boat design, boat handling, boatbuilding, etc.
CONTACT: If you’re interested in a charter of VELA, CLICK HERE to send us an email, and we will forward it to Havilah so he can follow up with you directly.
NOTE: OCH has no financial interest in this endeavor, we are only passing along a valuable opportunity to members.
With Jealousy,
Steve

The launch was amazing…crowd and young boatbuilders alike oozing pride! What a perfect outcome seeing them handling the oars puffing up strong in unison in late day sun..Havilah got this SO right. So glad to finally live here!!!! Congratulations to all.
