The TAMMIE NORRIE by designer Iain Oughtred is an all-round useful boat, in a traditional style, buildable in plywood and epoxy (or solid planking with steamed ribs). We had originally chosen Iain’s famous ACORN design, but Iain suggested the newer TAMMIE NORRIE, while also pointing out that he’s just completed designing his full range of traditional dinghies/boats in lengths from 7′ to 16′ with the following designs:

AUKLET 7′-2″ x 3′-11″
AUK 8′-2″ x 4′-3″
SEA HEN 9′-0″ x 4′-2″
PUFFIN 10′-2″ x 4′
GUILLEMOT 11′-6″ x 4′-5″
TAMMIE NORRIE 13′-6″ x 4′-6″
PENNY FEE 16′ x 5′-3″

According to Iain, all of these designs can be stretched or shrunk a few inches by varying the spacing of the molds. So between those limits you have a range of designs effectively extending from 7′ to 17′, in increments of 3″ to 4″.

I built a Tammie Norrie in 2010 as a first project. I chose the lug rigged yawl version, not hard to build but enough to make it an interesting challenge. And what you get is a lovely relaxing sail and/or an easy pulling boat for one or two people. Love it.
